These are a recent development in my artistic career and came about out of a need to experiment with colour harmonies and textures as well as a need to free up my painting.
What I find personally interesting is that, although they are all different, there is a family resemblance between them all. (So they would be a good basis for a collection)

Life on the Ocean Wave

This has been one of the most satisfying of my "sea" series of abstract paintings.
I had a lot of fun doing the crystals and bubbles and balloons .
This was exhibited in the Worcester Society of Artists Exhibition in the Worcester Art Gallery in November 1999.

Something Fishy
Medium: Acrylic
When I start one of these abstracts I have very little idea of the form that it will take.
One shape will suggest another and one colour will suggest another. Sometimes a choice doesn't work and passages of the painting need to be reworked.
The one thing that this has in common with the others in the eries is a suggestion of violent movement in water.

Portrait of Lucille
Medium: Acrylic
This was the first abstract that I painted after seeing a lot of post-impressionist paintings and works by Gauguin, Kandinsky, and Franz Marc.
When it was exhibited in the Worcester Society of Artists Annual Exhibition at the Worcester Art Gallery, the reviewer said that she was worried by its sexual connotations.
Just as well she didn't see my painting of a kora!!

Terrors of the Deep

There may be an explanation for everything that's going on in this picture but I'm not sure I want to know what it is!
Essentially I was striving to get the various pearlescent tones to suggest fish and fish scales and this aspect has worked quite well.
Some passages are reminiscent of Gustav Klimt but this was not intentional

Krakatoa
Medium: Acrylic
There is so much going on in this painting that I never tire of looking at it. This is possibly the last of the "Sea" series of paintings.
It came to a grinding halt for about four months while I struggled to work out what to put into the section under the eruption. Eventually the organic translucent green shapes emerged and these seemed to be just right.

Organic
Medium: Pastel
A new departure - not a trace of a wave in sight and painted in pastel instead of acrylics.
Pastel is very good for textures and subtle colour transitions and gives a subtle glow to the jewels which seem to be a feature of all my abstracts
A little nod towards Magritte with the sky watch.
