Dees' Poppies
Acrylic on Board
I was filming an instructional video for Dee Cowells' Vir2L Art Student Web Site when I saw these magnificent blooms.
Poppies are a favourite subject for artists and their sheen and depth of colour of these specimens presented a real challenge. Many people say that acrylics are garish and lacking in subtlety but the more I work with them the more I have found that I can introduce a richness and subtlety of tone by the use of successive transparent glazes of colour. This could be the first in a whole series of flower paintings in acrylics! Available as a card and as a 312x316 mm limited edition print
