A Nasty Spill
Pastel on Canson Paper
An old Boots' medicine bottle and some spilt water. A very simple composition which I painted in the early '90s
This was one of my first attemps at a still life using the paper as the background.
This is sometimes not as clever an idea as it may sound since more strongly coloured pastel papers can fade with age - particularly where dark blue papers have been used for night time scenes.
In this case, however, the neutral tone of the background is not going to fade signicicantly.
I now cover the complete picture with pastel since the pigment is absolutely lightfast and so no part of the picture will fade.
