Carnations with Honesty and Ribes Aureum in a Prinknash vase
Pastel on flour grade sandpaper
This picture marked my return to pastel painting after a break of 3 years concentrating on watercolour and acrylics. I had forgotten how quick and expressive pastels could be.
Unlike common Ribes (flowering blackcurrant) Ribes Aureum's yellow flowers do not smell of cats pee but fill the garden with a delightful perfume when they ppear in May. The strange thing is that when you move in for a big noseful, there is hardly any discernible scent.
