St Catherines Island Tenby
Medium: Watercolour
Location: Tenby, Pembrokeshire
This painting has an unusual quality init seems to respond to the weather outside the room where it is hung.
When the sun falls on it, the distant beach seems to light up. When the weather is overcast, it is quite moody.

On the Rocks, Tenby
Medium: Watercolour
Location: Tenby, Pembrokeshire
Like anywhere in the British Isles, Tenby is subject to sudden changes in the weather, many of which give very dramatic skies which threaten a heavy downpour while part of the scene is in bright sunshine.
In this case, the rain didn't materialise

Harbour Steps,, Tenby
Medium: Watercolour
Location: Tenby, Pembrokeshire
The backlight on this scene with the deep shadows and the sun catching the lamposts and the water in the foreground made this a very challenging subject to capture.
The secret of emphasising sunlight is to deepen the shadows. In the early stages of the painting, the scene seemed very dull but several applications of shadow later, the sun started to sparkle, particularly on the water.
