This wintry scene caught my eye both because of the wintry sky but also because of the oak trees reminiscent of three witches.
Pastels are great for rendering frost on grass as can be seen here.
More tangled branches with a glimpse of the Malvern hills in the distance. Evesbatch is a tiny speck on the map in the Frome valley where a lot of top quality cider is produced.
Geographically, it is in Herefordshire but it has a Worcester postcode. (Just to save people e-mailing me)

This was a beautiful crisp Winter morning scene with the frost just starting to melt and the sun filtering through the trees.

Smell that leafmould!
I have taken hundreds of photographs trying to capture the feeling of woods in autumn.
This painting succeeds where many of my other ones have failed.

This was an exercise in pure watercolour inspired by the paintings of Edward Wesson who was one of the best exponents of "pure" watercolour.
What is pure watercolour?
It's watercolour which lets the paper shine through the washes of paint to give an effect of luminosity.
Real purists ban the use of chinese white or gouache but Turner used chinese white extensively in his watercolours so obviously there are some pretty stupid rules that are just made to be broken
We had a hurricane in Autumn 1987 which flattened a lot of trees in the South of England and this was followed by a second big storm a couple of years later.
These storms had a number of consequences for walkers. One was that, if you were following a walk in a book, instructions like "Turn left at the clearing" became meaningless since huge new clearings had been created almost overnight. The second, somewhat happier, consequence was that new vistas were created which had previously been blocked by trees. This scene is a perfect example of this. The old trees are in the process of being chopped up for firewood and the view stretches on for miles.
There is a very "airy" feeling about this painting.
