Snow on Malvern Link Common (Acrylic)
Hardly any white can be seen in this picture.
Notice the red coat. Constable frequently introduced a red figure in the distance in his landscapes to draw the viewer's eye into the picture.
Who am I to argue with him?

South Hill Park Frost (Pastel)
The lakes at South Hill Park in Bracknell are an easy walk from my home so when it is frosty or icy, I'm there with my camera.
I have to confess that I am too fond of my creature comforts to make a big thing of painting on the spot when it is very cold.
Some watercolourists do this and even put vodka in their water to stop it freezing when they paint watercolours.
I take a photo and drink the vodka

Fifield Sunset (Pastel)
This is Fifield near Windsor on a Winter evening just before sunset. I was particularly struck by the tortured silhouttes of the three oak trees which were reminiscent of three witches. Pastel is a particularly effective medium for rendering the effect of frost on grass

Frosty Lane, Evesbatch (Acrylic)
Evesbatch is a very small place off the road between Worcester and Hereford.
The low sun, the mist and the frost were irresistible.

North Lake South Hill Park, Bracknell (watercolour)
Another frosty morning in South Hill Park, this time in watercolour.

The Rod Jones On-line Art Gallery
Much as I like warm weather, Winter provides a wealth of highly paintable subjects which are hidden by summer greenery.
